Renowned senior Tamil journalist DBS Jeyaraj no more

 

DBS Jeyaraj 

Renowned senior Tamil journalist David Buelle Sabapathy (D. B. S ) Jeyaraj popularly known as ‘DBS Jeyaraj’ passed away today in Canada, his family said. He was 72. 


As a bilingual and authoritative figure on Sri Lanka’s ethnic conflict and politics due to decades long reporting experience on the longstanding issue, Jeyaraj regularly contributed to various publications including  Colombo based Daily Mirror with his insightful columns, analysis and and opinion pieces. 


Mr Jeyaraj commenced his journalistic career at Colombo based Tamil weekly Virakesari in 1970s  and later contributed to English publications such as Sunday Leader and Front Line etc. 


He was forced to migrate to Canada due to death threats by Tamil militant groups in 1990s and thereafter he had based in Canada. However, he had a close eye on Sri Lankan social and political developments and continued to pen down critical articles over the years. (Northeastern Monitor/May 17/2026)
