A protest was staged yesterday (June 28) at Chemmani junction, near the largest mass grave in the country demanding justice and truth for the enforced disappeared persons in the past.
University students, youths, local politicians along with families of enforced disappeared persons took part in the protest at Chemmani memorial, constructed at the junction, Jaffna.
Protesters reiterated the longstanding demand of ensuring justice to be served and truth to be revealed on the human remains recovered at the site and enforced disappeared persons during war time period.
So far, 412 human remains were found in which 409 were fully excavated and placed under judicial custody of Jaffna Magistrate Courts.
The excavation activities at the site is scheduled to recommence on July 15. (Northeastern Monitor/ June 29/ 2026)
