A Rs 300 million worth dedicated AI assisted Cath lab for the Cardiology Unit at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital was declared open on Saturday (June 27) by Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa.
Constructed as state of art lab, the lab is intended to serve over one million people from Northern province. Currently, several heart patients are forced to travel to Colombo to get medication for heart related diseases.
The lab will provide services related to Coronary Angiography, Angioplasty and fixing stents as well for local communities without going through open heart surgeries.
Along with the lab, Rs 30 million worth Echo machine, suction tool, Multi monitor, syringe pump, suction pump and various medical equipments were also provided to the unit as well. (Northeastern Monitor/ June 28 / 2026)
