Private hospital in Jaffna fined Rs 3 million for consumer law violations

 



Jaffna Magistrate Court fined a private medical hospital Rs 3 million for violating consumer law regulation of overcharging to conduct medical tests. 


The hospital Venus Specialty Hospital was handed in fine by Magistrate court  on July 21. 


The raid was among the dozens of raids carried out by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA)  which resulted in legal action against 23 private hospitals and medical laboratories across Sri Lanka after investigations uncovered the use and storage of expired chemicals and medicines, along with other consumer law violations.



According to the CAA, courts have imposed a total of Rs. 5,798,000 in fines in relation to the 23 cases filed so far.


Another hospital, Yarl Mother Care Hospital was also handed in fine of Rs 100,000 for violating consumer regulations. (Northeastern Monitor/July 24/2026)
