The historic Manthri House, the official residence of the Minister to the last King of Jaffna Sangliyan located in Nallur, Jaffna partially collapsed today due to bad weather condition prevailed in Jaffna region.
The Southern looking compound of the centuries old iconic structure, considered as an archeological monument collapsed earlier today due to heavy rains coupled with strong winds in Jaffna.
Despite Department of Archaeology gazetted the site as one of the archeological sites in North in 2007, the site was not properly maintained due to legal dispute involving the owner of the land on which the structure is constructed.
Attempts by local groups to preserve the historical building also turned out to be unsuccessful as local government institutions failed to take initiatives to protect the structure which was on the verge of being collapsed. (Northeastern Monitor/ September 17/2025)
