An exhibition documenting Jaffna's traditional 'Naatsar'- courtyard design houses is currently underway in Chunnakam, Jaffna where drawings and photographs by Chartered Architect Asokan Sritharan is displayed for the public.
Organized by Paakan Kalaikoodam, the exhibition is on till tomorrow (October 6) at Collanade House, located on the 9Km stone, KKS road, Chunnakam, from 10.00 am till 5.00 pm. The exhibition was open from Thursday (October 3). Due to popular demand, the exhibition was extended till tomorrow.
Mr Sritharan researched and documented extensively through photographs and drawings on the courtyard houses in the Jaffna region, which are still standing even after decades, despite surviving nearly three decades of civil war.
Enthusiasts, youths, university students and the public turned up at the exhibition to get a close look at the past architectural heritage of the region which is disappearing in recent times due to new infrastructure, replacing old buildings with multi-storey concrete houses in the recent past.
