A 34 year old youth was found dead in police custody yesterday (October 3) at Pesalai police station in Mannar.
The victim was identified as Rajendran Kabilan who was taken into custody previous day over drug smuggling charges in Kaaddaspathri area.
The arrested individual was taken into police station for further investigation. Mother of victim alleged that police had beaten his son to death in police custody after identifying body at hospital mortuary.
With the body has been handed over for postmortem, the Mannar police is carrying out further investigation over the incident. (Northeastern Monitor / October 4/2025)
