Victims of Pirambady massacre remembered


Relatives of the victims who were massacred in Pirambady 38 years ago by IPKF marked the event with opening of a memorial in Kokkuvil, Jaffna. 


A commemorative event was held to remember 50 civilians who were killed in a massacre carried out by Indian Peacekeeping Forces (IPkF) from October 10-12 thirty years ago (1987) in Pirambady of Kokkuvil, Jaffna. 


The three day massacre by IPKF saw eight individuals from Pirambady, two university students from University of Jaffna, four persons including a school student from Kaladdy area were among the victims. 


Relatives of victims, public from the area and civil society representatives took part in the event where a memorial was declared open at the lane where victims were killed.  This was the first massacre carried out by IPKF soon after landed in Jaffna over 38 years ago to uphold peace in the region.
