Former Minister and leader of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) Douglas Devananda has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over an incident of his personal firearm being found in the hands of members of an organised criminal gang.
According to CID investigations, a firearm weapon which was provided to then minister Devananda by the Sri Lanka Army for his personal use in 2001, was later recovered following the interrogation of organised criminal figure ‘Makandure Madush’ in 2019.
Earlier today, former MP was invited to appear before CID to record a statement and later was arrested since he failed to disclose how the weapon with the serial number given by Army reached the hands of underworld gang. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 26/2025)
