Cyclone Ditwa: Over 275,000 persons from 84,000 families affected in North

Flood affected families in Kandawalai, Kilinochchi were evacuated by authorities following Cyclone Ditwah hit North last week. 

 


At least 275,819 persons from 84,729 families are affected due to recent cyclone Ditwah in Northern province, according to Disaster Management Centre(DMC).


Nine deaths reported due to the inclement weather last week and four others reported missing. 


22,143 persons from 7,177 families are currently sheltered in temporary camps. With 19 houses completely damaged, another 489 houses partially damaged, the DMC said.


In Mannar, 36,483 persons from 40,605 families are affected. Two deaths were reported in the district. 11,800 persons from 3767 families are sheltered in relief camps. 


In Jaffna, 53,727 persons are affected from 16,849 families. Three deaths reported while in Mullaithivu, 39,193 persons from 12,691 families are affected. 


In Kilinochchi, 25,631 persons from 8264 families are affected while in Vavuniya 20,785 persons from 6320 families are affected.(Northeastern Monitor/ December 3/2025)
