A group of Indian military team attached to the ongoing flood relief campaign in Sri Lanka visited Kilinochchi last week to assess damages to infrastructures particularly road connectivity in the district.
As part of their preliminary assessment, the team, assisted by District Secretary , senior officialsa and Sri Lankan military forces visited Paranthan - Mullaithivu (A35) road which was badly damaged due to recent floods caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The Indian military’s Engineers Corp team led by Maj Angad Sing Gurm visited the damaged bridge that connects two districts.
Since the launch of Operation Sagar Bandhu on Nov 28, India has provided about 58 tonnes relief material including dry rations, tents, tarpaulins, hygiene kits, essential cloths, water purification kits and about 4.5 tonnes medicines and surgical equipment.
Another 60 tonnes of equipment including generators, inflatable rescue boats, Out Board Motors, excavators etc. have also been brought to Sri Lanka. Further, 185 tonnes of Baily Bridge units were airlifted to restore critical connectivity along with 44 engineers, Indian High Commission in Colombo said.
Two columns of National Disaster Response Force comprising 80 experts and K9 units with specially trained dogs assisted with immediate rescue and relief efforts in Sri Lanka. (Northeastern Monitor/ December 8/2025)
