Jaffna Day Surgery Centre declared open at JTH

The Jaffna Day Surgery Centre was declared open on Friday (6) at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. 

The Jaffna Day Surgery centre was declared open on Friday (February 6) in the Clinical Teaching and Research Block of the Jaffna Medical faculty adjoining the Jaffna Teaching Hospital (JTH).

It is an initiative of the Department of Surgery and the medical faculty but has been developed in consultation with the Teaching Hospital and health ministry . It is the first of its kind in the country as well. 

It will be managed by the Teaching Hospital and considered to be a good model of collaboration between the University of Jaffna and the Teaching Hospital. 

The move, it is expected to ease pressures on bed occupancy in the regional teaching  hospital where hundreds of patients travel from across the North to receive treatment. (Northeastern Monitor/ February 8/2026)
