At least 41 fresh human skeletons were recovered during the last sixteen days of excavations activities at the Chemmani mass grave site, Jaffna.
Till Thursday, 283 human skeletons were recovered in the total number of 70 days of excavations activities. At least two remains of infants were also excavated yesterday (June 4) as well.
During the excavation on Thursday (June 4), a human remains suspected to be given proper burial was identified as well.
So far, several objects such as school bag, children play tools, jewels, slippers, frocks, feeding bottle, and suspected gold jewelry were recovered during the excavation process. All the objects are placed under judicial custody of Jaffna Magistrate Court. (Northeastern Monitor/ June 5/ 2026)
